"And he shook when he laughed like a bowlful of Jell-O!" Here's a swanky twist on frat-party favorite Jell-O shots. The nostalgic kitsch factor of gelatin desserts combines with the popularity of Cosmopolitans to give a kick you haven't felt since you got lost looking for your dorm room.

you will need

One 3-ounce box sparkling white
grape–flavored gelatin
3/4 cup boiling water
1/2 ounce Rose's Lime Juice
1-1/2 ounces vodka
1 ounce Cointreau
3 ounces cranberry juice
2 small metal tart molds
2 martini glasses
1 toothpick (optional)

Serves II

1 In a bowl, mix the gelatin with the boiling water and stir until dissolved, about 2 minutes. Refrigerate for 10 minutes.

2 Stir in the lime juice, vodka, Cointreau, and cranberry juice. Gently pour into the metal tart molds, filling them to the brim.

3 Pour the rest into the martini glasses. Pop all surface bubbles with the toothpick. Place in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.

4 When the gelatin is firm, remove the glasses and tart molds from the refrigerator.

5 Dip a small, thin-bladed knife in warm water and run the tip of it around the edge of the molds to loosen.

6 Dip one mold in warm (not hot) water just barely below the rim for 10 seconds. Still holding the mold upright, shake the mold ever so slightly to loosen it from the sides. If we were unmolding a big Jell-O salad, we would place a chilled wet plate on top and flip it. That is not going to work with this recipe. You are going to have to be brave, be careful, and a little luck wouldn't hurt. Aim for the center of the waiting martini glass and hope for the best. (If the molded gelatin doesn't land dead center, who cares? Everyone is going to be slurping down a bunch of alcohol in a minute and no one will remember a thing.) Repeat with remaining mold and martini glass and serve.
