BY VIRGINIA GROSSMAN
ILLUSTRATED BY SYLVIA LONG

Before sharing the book:
Lead the children (or child) in counting the rabbits on the front and back covers. Share the endpapers and discuss the design. Invite them to listen to the book and count along with you.

Reading and discussing the book:
As you share the book, invite the children (or child) to count the rabbits on each page. Encourage them to note details in the illustrations. Reread the book to highlight the rhyming words.

After the reading:
Share the glossary at the end of the book. If you have a group of children, divide them into ten small groups to discover more about each tribe. You may wish to visit the library to borrow more books about Native Americans. Display the discovered information on a bulletin board or in a big book format. Exhibit a United States map and ask the children to point out the area where each tribe lives.
