This fall we’re releasing Lotta Jansdotter‘s new book Handmade Living.
This is a special one. It’s all about Lotta’s take on Scandinavian style: functional, easy, organized, and not overly ornate. Words I’d like to have describe my house, too. To help us get there, Lotta opens the doors to her home and studio and shows us how it’s done in this photo-driven decorating + lifestyle + craft + entertaining book. I particularly like the project ideas–simple flower arrangements, cut felt decorations, hand stenciled pillows and tea towels, clipboard art galleries–all small touches that make a big impact.

As a bonus to this sneak peek, here are two simple and satisfying projects from the book. The first mobile is perfect to celebrate the end of summer; make the second one when you’re ready to transition into fall. They’re both easy, yet they add such a special accent to the home.
Enjoy!
A Paper Mobile
Here’s an idea for a cheery mobile: cut leftover paper scraps into almond-shaped pieces, then string them together with a sewing machine.

A Felt Mobile
Felt is such a great material to work with and is easy to use to make accents for the home. I made this wonderful mobile, inspired by a design I saw in a Japanese magazine, from a big piece of industrial felt (industrial felt is thicker and sturdier than regular felt, so it worked well for this project). I also found some felt furniture pads in a hardware store that made excellent berries to add to the mobile. Furniture pads come in all kinds of sizes and a few different colors, and they have an adhesive on one side, so they can easily be stuck to a felt mobile (or anything else).
