We all know how it goes. You study hard (well, maybe not hard enough), only to take one look at the test and realize you have no clue. Gulp. While you might have resisted the temptation to scribble something egregious, others, like those featured in our new book, F in Exams, did not.
To celebrate smart alecks everywhere, we’re giving away this collection of the more creative and hilarious ways students tackled those particularly challenging questions.
To enter for a chance to win, just check out some of the very best totally wrong test answers in this slideshow, and tell us which one is your favorite in the comment field below by Tuesday, April 5th.

I love lemonade. It makes sense to me…
I like the answer on the cover. That is exactly where to find x!
The Mariah Carey comment gets me every time!
I'd like to move to Hawaii to reduce heat in my home, too. A+!
These are so funny! My mother is a teacher, I am definitely giving this to her as a gift!
It has to be the Malays and Malaria question, though I remember wanting to answer the same way to 'find x' when frustrated with algebra… #examfail
Personally, I think packing on thermal undies, moving to Hawaii or, you know, just closing the darn door are perfectly acceptable ways to reduce heat loss at home.
I've got to go with the Persian Cat answer although all the students should get an E for Effort.
LOL
by far, it’s the ‘malaria’ answer!
I'm laughing out loud at expand 2(x+y)!
How else would you expand 2(x+y)?!
I love "Find X", simple and to the point!
e x p a n d 2 ( X + Y )
I agree with the Mariah Carey answer. That one makes me giggle :)
I like the Persian cats.
Ha, my fave is answer no. 3, close the door, in response to "three ways to reduce heat loss in your home", classy.
I enjoy the cats answer!
Expand 2x+y. Gotta admire the creative thinking there. :)
As a math teacher, I found the "expand 2(x+y) rather funny and creative.
I love the expand 2x+y answer.
Reducing heat loss in the home cracked me up, probably because I regularly do two out of three. I so wish I had saved silly quiz and test responses when I was teaching. I had one students who latched onto the word "mud-turkle" in _Huck Finn_, and would use it at every opportunity. (i.e., Brutus was a mud-turkle when he stabbed Caesar.)
It's a tie between the "Mariah Carey" and "Cats" answers! HA! What a great idea for a book!
I like the move to Hawaii answer and the arrow to find x. I would love to win this to give to my dad who is a teacher.
Expand 2(x+y) is a genius. Mathematically (or is it scientifically) he is still correct. Genius I tell you.
Apparently the expand x student watched star wars instead of homework
Malaria! Good times.
It’s already been named several times (because it was so good), but my favorite was the Malays and Malaria answer, too!
Has to be Maria Carey answer, very very funny!
The "what is the main industry in Persia" response has to be my favorite. The best part is the drawing!
Expand 2(x+y) is so silly.
Love it! I was in class tonight, and we discussed our recent assignment: writing debate statements in a current environmental issue (oil drilling). No one received an A. The teacher was looking for the following answer…"Do Nothing." Who would have guessed?
Huh. You DON'T get your electricity faster? :-P /// Find x: "Here it is!" — hands down my favorite.
I want to know how this book was put together and if there's anyway to find out the name of the teachers or students within this book. Reason why I'm curious is because back in high school, I gave my math and science teachers permission to submit my stupid test answers online back 2007-2008. I had one full semester of stupid test questions because I failed at Algebra and Chemistry… I read this book recently and so many of these answers seem familiar! I can't help but wonder if some of them are mine! I wanna know! I wish I didn't throw out my old tests now. There's no way I could possibly remember all of my clever and stupid answers.
