From libraries and food banks to public parks and urban farmsteads, Chronicle Books employees took to the streets on June 10th to give a little back for our third annual Volunteer Day.

Over at the San Francisco Public Library, CB volunteers sorted and cataloged books in the donation bin. Mia Blankensop, with the help of TwitPic, kept her followers entertained with some of her more esoteric book finds.

Here’s Tessa Ingersoll getting ready to read from Beastly Boys and Ghastly Girls.

Over in the urban forest of the Presidio, we did some gardening and weed maintenance (to help give reintroduced native plants a foothold) at the one-year-old Rob Hill Campground.

Holden Hardcastle was our man with the wheelbarrow.

Over at youth group Opportunity Impact, a hard-working crew built bookshelves and chairs, and then set up and decorated a reading area.

Down at the Vida Verde youth camp near Half Moon Bay, a crew of folks helped prep the grounds for the upcoming summer season. Ben Laramie found a killer poncho to wear. Very Man With No Name.

Anna Carollo, also at Vida Verde, is not to be trifled with.

Here are the rest of the Vida Verde volunteers.

A perennial favorite with Volunteer Day veterans, Hayes Valley Farm had a well-stocked crew ready to get their hands dirty.

There were plenty more volunteer events going on, including work at the San Francisco Food Bank and City Slicker Farms. We lucked out this year with a gorgeous sunny day that made our work all the more enjoyable—but any day is a good day to volunteer.
