Extra Special Bridesmaid Invitations Inspired by the Forest

Planning a wedding during the age of Pinterest boards, countless blogs, and yes, even those Buzzfeed lists, can get overwhelming. There are so many options and so many expectations! My fiance and I got engaged last November and we’re realizing how crucial it is to remember that #1: it’s okay to take the unconventional route, and #2: we’re preparing for our marriage, and not just our wedding.

As we were plowing through our intimidating to-do list, we recently checked off a big one: asking our bridal party to be a part of the big day. After scouring high and low for creative bridesmaid invitations, I decided to put together something a little different, personalized with recurring details that will be in the wedding. I took inspiration from our ceremony venue, a gorgeous redwood grove in Oakland, as redwoods have special meaning for my fiancé and I (it’s where he proposed! More on that here).

While putting together these invites, I felt increasingly more grateful that these friends of mine would journey with me on this crazy wedding planning journey, but more importantly, continue to support and love me as I enter into married life. So, with the beautiful redwoods as my cue, I set out to create a mini “Forest in a Box” invite for my dearest lady friends. I…

  • Hand-painted names on these wood slice tags
  • Made tiny felt flags
  • Incorporated gold paperclips
  • Used foraged moss as the base (no trees were harmed!)
  • Finished it off with dried flowers

I designed the invitation to be reminiscent of old Polaroids, added in pops of my favorite color, and had fun putting a quirky spin on some traditional bridesmaid duties.

I also created a pamphlet of sorts, introducing each of the bridesmaids in the party with fun facts as a mini-ice breaker.

And here’s everything put together! I wanted to create something special for these incredibly special friends of mine, and I hope it got them excited about traipsing around a forest in heels! Kidding, no heels required.

These are beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I just finished making boxes for my bridal party as well, and really enjoyed coming up with the contents (mine were ‘wedding pun’ themed). Aside from that, I’m most excited about adding special touches to the day… signature drinks, funny photo props, etc. and hopefully staying sane during the process!

What a thoughtful and lovely bridesmaids box! I love putting together the wedding album. I haven’t been part of many weddings, but I love gathering the photos from friends and family and designing a unique album for the couple.

Thoughtful and meaningful party favors make me pretty excited. I especially love handmade favors and if it includes a tasty treat like homemade beer or preserves then that’s even better.

These boxes are truly fantastic! Did you send them through the mail?
My favourite part of a wedding is people watching. Seeing a Mum’s face when her daughter sais I do. Watching the look on the bride’s face during the groom’s speech – all the feelz!

My sister is getting married this autumn and I am her one and only bridesmaid! I think my favorite part of a wedding is watching the groom’s face when he sees the bride coming down the aisle. PRICELESS.

These invites are too good! I love it! As a wedding-goer, I cannot wait to bust out the moves and dance the night away. As a bride-to-be, I love to make handmade, corny, pun-filled, cards for my love to surprise him throughout the planning stages.

My wedding was 45 years ago. and I think the part I enjoyed most was sitting down and planning everything with my then fiancé. We were in 2 different states and the time we had together planning the whole thing was wonderful.
Now I am planning for my 50th wedding anniversary. I would like to repeat our vows but most of the family is gone, Will have to see if 2 of the girls I asked to be bridesmaids then will be able to come this time One was there one was not able to come.

A few of my dearest friends are getting married this year and it’s such an exiting time!

One of my favorite parts of a wedding is watching a father walk his daughter down the aisle. The hand-off at the alter is so symbolic and deeply felt.

Ah… wedding season is indeed fast approaching. For me, I think my favorite part of the wedding is the first look. I love the reactions! Even the audience anticipates that famous groom’s first glimpse of the bride so their reactions are so much fun to watch as well.

The aspect of our wedding that has been my favorite is just thinking about how much love we’ve been surrounded by and being able to celebrate with everyone!
