Lotta Prints Party in SF

This past Saturday we had our first printing party for Lotta Jansdotter’s new book, Lotta Prints. The event was held at the fabulous Craft Gym here in San Francisco. The Craft Gym was the perfect space for a big ole print party, we had cut pieces of fabric ahead of time and provided stencils, linocuts, and potatoes to print with.

The event started at 5pm and I was shocked to see a line almost to the corner at 4:45pm! People were so eager to meet Lotta and get their hands dirty.

There were so many people I can’t believe everyone fit and waited patiently for their turn to make some prints.

I loved seeing the different material and clothing people brought to print on. One couple brought pillow cases, someone brought beautiful silk fabric she printed on and is going to sew up into a jacket, and look at this adorable shirt.

We hung the prints on the wall to dry and it was so great to see them all up there, it reminded me of grade school art class. Lotta asked everyone to leave behind a piece of what they made and she’ll be turning the pieces into one big quilt or wall hanging.

It took some serious elbow grease to clean those tables, but I think we did a pretty decent job. Next time we’ll know to put paper on the table before the printing fun begins!
