Chronicle Books is looking for a Financial Analyst to join our team in San Francisco. This role is responsible for financial analysis and sales forecasting. This includes developing and executing sales reports and sales forecasting tool, providing detailed analysis of key account retail sales performance, and supporting our distribution partners. The Financial Analyst will work with distribution, finance, IT, and operational staff to develop and/or refine project-related analysis. This role will also provide recommendations, solutions, strategies, and actions.

Primary Job Responsibilities

 

  • Understanding of data warehouses and business systems to ensure accurate reporting to develop improved reporting tools consistent with business objectives
  • Prepare and distribute weekly/monthly reporting packages including identifying key trends and statistics
  • Support sales department and distribution clients in sales forecasting
  • Responsible for title and customer profitability analysis
  • Assist in the preparation of bi-annual business review presentations
  • Provide detailed trend and variance analysis on revenue and marketing efforts
  • Assist with inquiries from clients regarding plans/forecasts and sales performance, providing both summary and detailed models and analysis
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budget as well as ongoing monthly forecasts and quarterly re-forecast
  • Develop and implement new reports and analysis to facilitate current strategic business objectives
  • Assist distribution client services staff with special projects and reporting needs

 

Qualifications

 

  • Proficient in the use and development of financial models or financial software
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively identify problems and develop solutions
  • 5+ years of experience in Finance or related area
  • Previous product planning, inventory management,and/or book publishing experience a plus
  • A passion for book publishing, gift products, and desire to work in a creative environment
