Moleskine® launches myDetour in San Francisco

Chronicle Books is excited to partner with Moleskine to participate in the 2009 San Francisco myDetour program, running from September 10 - October 1, 2009. myDetour is a Moleskine project dedicated to the community of Moleskiners and anyone who loves to paint, photograph, illustrate, write, and use their Moleskine notebooks for other creative projects. It is a chance for Moleskine users to show their notebooks, both online and offline, and share their creativity and imaginations with both their local communities and with the larger Moleskine community.

Starting September 10, myDetour will be featured as a special display at the Chronicle Books headquarters in San Francisco, as well as at various other book and art supply locations throughout the Bay Area. Moleskine users are invited to visit the displays to check out completed books by authors and artists around the world, as well as drop their Moleskine notebooks in the collection boxes for consideration to join the traveling archive as it continues throughout the world.

For more information on myDetour, visit www.moleskine.com/mydetour/sfo.

DISTRICT OF YOU
The theme of the 2009 myDetour in San Francisco is "District of You" - a tribute to the familiar places and an invitation to find the extraordinary side of your ordinary surroundings. Whether you’re in the Bay Area and preparing to submit your notebook to the myDetour program or elsewhere and just want to express your creativity, we invite you to participate in the Chronicle Books "District of You" contest, where we would like to see your sketches, drawings, photos, or thoughts on your personal "places of inspiration." Where do you find your creativity? How do your surroundings inspire you? Simply scan your Moleskine notebook and post your images on our Flickr Group. Five submissions will be chosen at random to receive a special gift from Moleskine.

Launch of Glass House Moleskine® Sketchbook

Saturday’s event at the Four Seasons was a huge success!

Saturday’s event at the Four Seasons celebrated the launch of the Glass House Moleskine® Sketchbook which was inspired by the Glass House site’s unique power of place, its role as a source of inspiration and the desire for visitors to pause, look closely and document their observations as part of their site experience.

Held in the beautiful Grill Room at the Four Seasons, the event attracted almost 150 individuals from the arts, architecture and design community. Attendees included individuals from the Museum of Modern Art, Parson’s School of Design, the Art Directors Club, the Frick Collection, Time Magazine, PEI Architects, IFC, the Emmy’s and the Donald Judd Foundation. Some of the artists such as Chip Kidd, Yves Behar, Steven Doyle and Stephen Holl were also there to celebrate.

The event’s centerpiece exhibited a sculpture of a tiny replica of the Glass House made out of a Moleskine notebook and fashioned by Steven Doyle. This piece, along with copies of the sketchbook, kept the entire night buzzing with intellectually stimulating conversation from beginning to end.

The sketchbook features 29 sketches by architects, designers, and artists inspired by the site, quotes by Philip Johnson, and blank pages for notes or sketching. The sketchbook will be a featured product of the 2008 Glass House Shop and all proceeds from this sketchbook will support Glass House initiatives.

Please visit www.moleskine.com/theglasshouse/ to see the beautiful slideshow of the sketchbook’s images. We will soon provide a section that will invite students and the public to share their own sketches on the site.
