And to Name But Just a Few: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue -- Olives, trees, pickles, peas . . . What do they have in common? All of them are green! In her debut picture book, Laurie Rosenwald explores the world of color through humorous poetry and dynamic collages. Pink flamingos aspire to be ballerinas, yellow taxis screech to a halt at red stop signs, and black cats relax with the morning crossword puzzle.
More than just an introduction to basic colors, this book shows how colors interact and enrich our everyday lives. Clever rhyming text and bold, graphic illustrations are sure to make this book a favorite read-aloud.
Laurie Rosenwald is a graphic designer and artist who has done work for IKEA, The New Yorker, Nickelodeon, and The Coca-Cola Company, among others. it took a while for my husband and i to love this book, but after the 50+ times we have read it to our 2 year old son, we now adore it. He delights in the graphics and the offbeat sounding rhymes. His special favorite is the Purple pages--Monsters and high heeled shoes-ouch!
It does say that it is written for young adults, but my son keeps asking for it night after night and he has it memorized so that we hear it all day.
I am going to use it for my toddler literacy class because I actually have come to think of it as a great example of non-traditional writing which emphasizes clever out-of-the box thinking! |
