What To Knit For Holiday Gifts

2008-03-16 | 7:57 PM | Tara Lynchard
"Holiday Knits" is a delightfully photographed, well-organized book that will help every knitter answer the question posed to self before the holidays, "What should I knit for gifts this year?" The chapters are demarcated by the estimated length of time required to complete the projects. While there are certainly some distinct holiday-themed projects included (knitted Christmas stockings and tree ornaments), most of the projects are items that are useful and universally appealing regardless of the time of year to most of the gift recipients in knitters' lives. Among these are hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, socks, some baby items, a couple of garments, and even some home decor items. Knitters of many skill levels, including beginners, can find fun, engaging projects to knit in this book. This book is not an instructional book, but there is a section in the back with clear discussions of techniques used in the patterns. Conversely,it is unlikely that more advanced knitters would find patterns here that will allow them to really challenge themselves. This book is a solid, well-edited pattern book that utilizes basic, middle-of-the-road skills to execute projects that will be a hit either at your family's holiday celebration or any other occasion during the year that calls for the giving of beautiful handmade gifts.
