Tomi Ungerer was born in Strasbourg, France. He came to the United States in 1956, where he published his first children's books. Since then he has written and illustrated many successful and well-loved books for children, including Crictor, Moon Man, Zeralda's Ogre, and The Three Robbers. He is one of the most honored picture book artists in the world. In 1998 he was the recipient of the Hans Christian Andersen Award. "Tomi Ungerer has never failed the picture book," said Maurice Sendak. His paintings have been exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, and the Far East.
