When she was a child Elisa Kleven wished she could visit the enchanted places in her favorite books: Oz, Neverland, Charlotte and Wilbur's barnyard, the Secret Garden and Laura Ingalls Wilder's Big Woods, to name just a few. Since she couldn't actually get to these worlds, Elisa made miniature worlds of her own out paint, paper, glue, clay, cloth, and scraps of this and that. Now that she is an adult, Elisa is still making miniature worlds—intricate, multi-textured collages—in her picture books. Among the 27 books that Elisa has illustrated are The City By The Bay, by Tricia Brown, Abuela, by Arthur Dorros, and her own stories, The Paper Princess, Sun Bread, and The Apple Doll. Elisa is currently at work on a new project for Chronicle Books. Elisa lives in Albany, California with her husband, children, dogs and cats.

Charlotte in Giverny: An Interview with Joan MacPhail Knight
Joan MacPhail Knight was about Charlotte's age when she set sail with her family on the S.S. Independence to Paris, where they then lived for six years. After that, they moved to Tunisia and then to Tripoli, Libya, where Joan had a spotted dog named Couscous and a donkey called Duncan. Now she lives in New York's Hudson Valley with her husband and three Brussels Griffons. When she's not writing or gardening, Joan and her husband are busy with their company, Catskill Mountain Pictures, scouting locations for film, fashion and television.
