This is a perfect way to wake and greet the day. It was developed by roosters at the dawn of time and has been passed down from generation to generation. Roosters have made rather a show of this routine, but we can all enjoy the benefits of this practice.
{1} Start in Wishbone pose as the sun begins to make its appearance for the day. {2} Inhale and stretch your wings above your head. Stand on your toes as you lengthen your backbone to peek at the morning's first rays. You may opt to chant softly for the first time here. {3} Exhale and bend at the hips and reach your wings to the ground in a sweeping motion. {4} Inhale and bend your right knee forward, stepping your left leg straight back into a lunge. {5} Exhale and bring your right leg straight back in alignment with your leg. Hold in this push-up position. Take a moment to view the bugs. {6} Inhale and lower your beak to the ground while keeping your tail feathers up. Slide your legs straight out behind you. Feel as one with the earth as you both welcome the sun's rays after the chill of night. {7} Exhale and slide your breastbone across the ground pushing your beak up and arching into Snake in the Grass pose. Chant. {8} Inhale, tuck your toes under, and lift your tail feathers high into the growing sunlight as in Grain on Ground Pose. {9} Exhale and step your left leg up back into a lunge. {10} Inhale and draw both legs up into a bend. {11} Sweep your wings up, out, and to the sun. {12} Finish the routine with a loud song of salutation and joy.
