Jenny Hart made embroidery cool before anyone dared to try. Her own embroidery works have been internationally exhibited and are included in the collections of many celebrities. Jenny lives in Austin, Texas, where she runs Sublime Stitching and is a member of the Austin Craft Mafia. She also teaches embroidery classes at Make Workshop in New York City.

Alexandra Grablewski's photographs have appeared in magazines such as Martha Stewart Living and Real Simple, in addition to several cooking and craft books. She lives in New York City.

not your grandma's embroidery!

I love this book! That patterns in it are so cute and so original! Even my boyfriend and guy friends love the patterns and have already asked me to stitch martini glasses dancing girls onto their pockets ;) Best of all are the how-to for a bunch of different stitches, as well as suggestions and resources for learning more. It's impossible not to feel inspired!

learn to embroider in one afternoon

I got the embroidery Stitch-It Kit and the Sublime Stitching on a sudden craft whim. I spent the next several days flipping through the patterns and uttering little coos of happiness. Once my roommate and I looked at every charming pattern three or four times each (from rocket ships to the Eiffel Tower), I finally got to work. Now, I’ve never done embroidery before in my life and it didn’t matter. Jenny Hart’s instructions make it painless. She’s kind of like a sassy, older sister who teaches you all the stitching tricks in one day. I even roped a guy friend into learning how to embroider and he found it “soothing”. Finally, did you know that one skein of embroidery floss costs less than a dollar? That's right. Cheapest. Hobby. Ever.
