one of the best cookbooks i've seen
10/11/11| Zelda Lemas a recent devotee to the "Slow Food" movement and a fan of the book The Omnivore's Dilemma, i have found myself looking for ways to go beyond shopping at Whole Foods and simply buying things that say "organic" on them (not that that's not a great thing to do!!) this books is just what i have been looking for - not only is it a beautiful book full of delicious recipes, but it is accessible and educational.
the real distinguishing characteristic of this cookbook is how each recipe is broken down into seasons, even going beyond the traditional four to distinguish "Early Spring," "the Dead of Winter," "Mid-Summer," "Late-Summer," etc. Not only are the recipes delicious, but there are plenty of pictures (i need that food porn element in my cookbooks!), and it's a great reference to see what is in season so that i can buy the freshest, most sustainable meat and produce.
A valuable addition to any kitchen, and for anyone interested in learning more about seasonality and sustainable agriculture! And yummy food!
