A Gem of a Book

A Gem of a Book

This gem of a book is right at home in a Science classroom or home library. Aston & Long have crafted a beautiful book with stunning illustrations and fabulous information about rocks. I love the Lapis Lazuli recipe : "mix the mineral lazurite with a dash of dosalite and a pinch of both calcite and pyrite. Heat within the earth until a brilliant blue" and the accompanying illustrations. An engaging and engrossing read, this book will appeal to all readers, and of particular interest to the classroom "rock specialist". (As an avid rock collector myself, I appreciated knowing a little more about the tumbled and rough cut gemstones I have in my home). - KO'
Perfect for grades 3-6, but with incredible applications for grades K-2, and 7-9. Marketed to grades K+. Classroom library must! Would be a perfect book for a classroom unit on rocks - contains great vocab, and the illustrations are gorgeous. Many of the featured rocks are available commercially from responsible purveyors.
