Disney Calendar

1/21/13| Erik
I have been getting the Disney desk calendar every year since 1995. A few years ago, the previous publisher discontinued it and oh, what a sad year that was. Thankfully, the following year, Chronicle books started their own version and I am so glad. I wanted to share a few thoughts about what I love and some things that could be improved upon.

Love:
-The selection of pictures are great. Love the sketch art scattered among the movie stills and such. The descriptions are fun too, especially when they are trivia based. Love the full page color shots on the weekends
-This year, the focus was really just on Disney animation, and that's great. As much as I love Pixar, it's nice to just have Disney.

Areas of Opportunity:
-The actual ream that you pull the pages off from is very hard to use. It does not tear off as the pages go so that about every month, there's a build up of the tops of tattered pages and I have to take the scissors to cut it off to I can continue tearing off pages. The old publisher's calendar did not do that, so I believe there must be a better material to use.
-Some facts are inaccurate throughout. For instance, there are about a half dozen pictures this year that say they are from Bambi and describing Bambi when they are actually from Bambi II. And The Great Mouse Detective was released in 1986, not 1987.
-There was a huge imbalance of which movies were used and which were not. It would be nice to have at least one or two pics from each, especially on the movies anniversary. Movies not included this year I would like to see back: Saludos Amigos, Make Mine Music, Melody Time, The Sword in the Stone, The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Rescuers,The Fox and the Hound, Oliver and Company, The Rescuers Down Under, Tarzan, The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis, Treasure Planet. And while most of the movies received 10+ pages, there were a few movies that only had a couple and deserved more: Bambi (3), Alice in Wonderland (2), Robin Hood (2), Black Cauldron (1), Pocahontas (5), Lilo and Stitch (2), Brother Bear (2). I'm not sure how you guys feel about the animation/live action movies, but those would be nice to see back too: Song of the South, So dear to My Heart, Mary Poppins, Bednobs and Broomsticks, Pete's Dragon, Enchanted. If you could make sure every movie is celebrated on its anniversary and they all get at least 2 or 3 pics would be very nice!

Thanks for publishing. Over all, it's really beautiful. Like I said, the animation sketches are a really fun addition and trivia has been great too.

-Erik
