Encourages abstract thinking
10/11/11| Jeni PaltielThis book is great on so many levels. For starters, it's beautifully and simply illustrated. I love being able to give kids books that feature good design. The interactive aspect of the book is fun and gets kids thinking creatively as they try to guess who would use the set of tools depicted. Of course, once you've read it a few times, they'll know the answers, but we found they continued to enjoy looking at the accurate pictures of everyday objects (from simple words like "hammer" to more complicated things like "bent-nose tweezers") and their associated words. Seeing the words and pictures together is good practice for early readers. And the variety of occupations depicted (from chef to electrician) appeals to kids, who always seem to be interested in the way things and people work.
