Bright, Colourful, Likable Characters & A Good Message...

Bright, Colourful, Likable Characters & A Good Message...

10/11/11| Annastacia Dickerson
Bright, colourful, likable characters and a good message... are the ingredients for a great children's picture book.

The characters of Julius and Friends are back in these lovely pages in a tale set in the old west. Julius is the sheriff of a town called, Plainsville. And, like it's name, Plainsville is rather plain indeed. Everyone in Plainsville is the same. They eat the same food at the same time of day, and wear the same clothes, boots, hats, pants the very same way.

Until one day Julius is inspired by a news article of a giant banana spill and orders banana pancakes instead of his usual spaghetti and meatballs for lunch.

This small decision sets off a domino effect in the town [all crazy like] where everyone at first starts to order something different to eat and then starts experimenting with different clothes and different ways to wear them.

Julius is overjoyed by this event and praises his town for 'being themselves' after finally understanding they were dressing and doing everything like him... because he's the sheriff. To commemorate the turn events, they rename the town after the story that started it all—Bananza.

The message is a good one... BE YOURSELF, even if it's different than from your friends.

The artwork is a riot of bright colours that attract the eye, and every picture has so much more beyond the written story to discuss with your child.

The copy is a easy for children ages 3+ to comprehend, and is not without it's little inside jokes for adults too.

The book is an excellent gift idea, or an addition to your own child's personal library.
