Wedding Week: Event Design Wisdom with Style (+ a FREE wedding venue checklist)
We’re thrilled to have author and in-demand wedding planner Alison Hotchkiss as a guest blogger during Wedding Week! Her new book All the Essentials Wedding Planner contains everything you need to plan and organize your special day. We asked Alison to offer some advice about choosing a venue and destination. Here are a few quick tips for choosing a venue or destination!
For destination weddings, choose a spot where you can arrive a week early, sunbathe, read a book, get massages and be totally relaxed for when your guests arrive. If you are relaxed, your guests will be relaxed.
Make a list of the most important aspects of the wedding to decide what you really want out of your destination wedding (i.e. activity-based, culture-based, etc.) before choosing a venue.
Weather should be a consideration as well. You can narrow your location options when you determine what month is best, weather-wise, for the location.
Catering is often a huge portion of the wedding budget, so remember it’s not just the cost of the food you have to consider. Don’t forget the labor, materials, and setting up and breaking down. Keep this in mind if you are considering a venue where you might need to bring everything in to create a kitchen.
Sometimes hiring a planner or caterer first could open many doors to locations that you may not be able to find on your own.
