Bookstores Are So Punk Rock

Independent bookstores are so punk rock. They’re anti-establishment. They’re full of misfits. And people keep pinning them with the Sex Pistols’ slogan, “No Future.” In honor of California Bookstore Day this Saturday, San Francisco illustrator Wendy MacNaughton created the Punk Rock Writers Journal exclusively available for purchase on Saturday, May 3rd, at participating stores.

From Gertrude Stein to Franz Kafka, Emily Dickinson to Langston Hughes, some of the most influential writers of our time were misfits and rebels themselves. Inspired by Wendy’s punk rock makeovers and the #hipsterbooks hashtag that was running wild on the Internet last week, we’ve re-imagined some of these writers’ most famous works as #punkrockbooks.
