Assistant Managing Editor
Chronicle Books is hiring an Assistant Managing Editor who will assist the Director of Managing Editorial and the Managing Editors in ensuring that all titles are created with a high level of quality and in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
The Assistant Managing Editor will copyedit manuscripts, proofread galleys and other materials, manage project workflow, and make editorial style decisions. They will also hire freelancers, ensure accuracy of metadata, maintain departmental processes, and attend department and status meetings.
The person in this position will need one to two years’ experience in managing editorial or production editing. Strong grammar skills, a working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style, and proofreading and/or copyediting experience are necessary. The Assistant Managing Editor must also have strong organizational skills, experience in working with deadlines, and the ability to manage several tasks at once, both independently and with a wide variety of people in a team environment.
