Associate Managing Editor, Children’s
Chronicle Books has an opening for an Associate Managing Editor who will ensure our Children’s titles are created with a high level of quality and in a timely and cost-efficient manner. The person in this role will manage project workflow of children’s titles while working collaboratively with Editorial, Design, and Production. The position involves evaluating freelance copy editors and proofreaders, managing reprint corrections, reviewing materials such as book jackets and marketing copy, and making editorial style decisions. The Associate Managing Editor will work closely with book team members, monitor schedules, assist in running status and transmittal meetings and ensure accuracy of metadata.
The position requires three or more years’ experience in managing editorial or production editing, or equivalent experience as a freelance proofreader and/or copy editor. Strong grammar skills, a working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style, and proofreading and/or copyediting experience are necessary. Experience fact checking or hiring fact-checkers is a plus, but not essential. The associate managing editor must have strong organizational skills, experience in working with deadlines, and the ability to manage several tasks at once, both independently and with a wide variety of people.
