The Adult Trade Marketing Director will be responsible for day-to-day management of the Adult trade title marketing and publicity team, overseeing development of strategic marketing and publicity plans with the objective of increasing sales, gaining brand visibility, and growing market share. This position is responsible (with the Executive Director) for managing the budget and other resources for the Adult trade title marketing and publicity team.

The person in this role will design, implement, and facilitate the annual Adult trade title marketing strategy for Chronicle Books including overall divisional marketing plans for titles and category growth, brand awareness and advertising. They will develop marketing plans that will include advertising, assisting sales with co-op spending, creating custom promotions, and creating partnerships with other parties. Publicity plans will include author tours, events, media relations, review mailings, coverage, excerpts and partnerships. The Marketing Director will also develop Marketing department members to be leaders, and they will work with the Executive Director to create efficient and effective processes to manage workload and human resources. A commitment to facilitate the open exchange of ideas and help create, sustain, and champion an atmosphere of collaboration is also a key component of this position.

A proven track record in a senior level marketing position, strategic planning and business development experience, strong business acumen along with leadership and team-building skills will be required. The Marketing Director must be a self-starter, highly organized, and able to work well with people at all organizational levels. This is a hands-on position that requires participation in all marketing related tasks as needed. We require 10+ years of experience in book publishing-related marketing, and a minimum 3 years’ experience supervising others.
