Publicist, Food and Lifestyle Publishing
Chronicle Books is looking for a Publicist (based in either San Francisco or NYC) to champion and publicize our Food and Lifestyle list and promote the company as a publisher of quality titles. The Publicist will partner with Marketing to create cohesive campaigns and publicity plans, and they will work with the Publishing Groups to develop the Food and Lifestyle list. The Publicist will also provide publicity expertise throughout the publication process while creating a publicity strategy that is both executable and an astute use of resources.
The person in this role will produce press materials, arrange author appearances, develop relationships with review media, and participate in acquisition and publishing group meetings for Food and Lifestyle titles. Locating titles that will generate strong media attention, monitoring sales, developing story ideas that garner coverage while being knowledgeable about our competitors' list will also be key to this role. There will be regular communication with authors as well as liaising with outside freelance publicists and/or publicity departments as well.
We are looking for candidates with 5+ years of prior publishing and/or public relations experience and a comprehensive understanding of the publishing industry. Candidates will need national media contacts and a proven ability to work in a fast-paced business environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, and strong public speaking skills are essential. In addition, candidates need a track record of successfully implementing publicity programs. A thorough understanding of how publicity works and outstanding analytical skills are essential in this position. Successful candidates will have the ability to work independently and collaborate with others.
