How to Apply

Chronicle Books is excited to accept submissions for the 2016-2017 session of our Design Fellowship program. There are four fellowships available in our Adult Books & Gifts, Children’s Books & Gifts, Marketing, and Product Design/Development groups.

Required Application Materials

  • Statement of purpose, not exceeding one page
  • Resumé
  • Physical bound portfolio which includes:
    • 10-12 examples of most recent graphic design work (student, personal and/or professional projects welcome)
    • Does not exceed 11×17″
    • Product shots rather than multiple loose materials
    • All pages labeled with your name and the group you are applying to

*All applications must meet these exact requirements to be considered.

Submissions are due no later than May 2, 2016

ADULT BOOKS & GIFTS DESIGN FELLOWSHIP

Application Requirements:

All applicants for the Adult Books & Gifts Design Fellowship position must have a strong interest in book, publication, or packaging design along with a background in graphic design.

Required Education:

Graduated with an accredited, undergraduate or graduate degree in design within 24 months prior to the start date of the fellowship. Design candidates only.

Required Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Word
  • Communication skills, written and verbal, in English
  • Prioritization, multitasking, and organization skills
  • Interpersonal, collaborative skills
  • Strong understanding of typography
  • Ability to flow text in long form
  • Knowledge of offset printing techniques, photography skills, illustration skills, calligraphy, and package design are a plus, but not required

MARKETING DESIGN FELLOWSHIP

Application Requirements:

All applicants for the Marketing Design Fellowship position must have a strong interest in book, publication, or packaging design along with a background in graphic design.

Required Education:

Graduated with an accredited, undergraduate or graduate degree in design within the past 24 months. Design candidates only.

Required Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Word
  • Communication skills, written and verbal, in English
  • Prioritization, multitasking, and organization skills
  • Interpersonal, collaborative skills
  • Strong understanding of typography
  • Ability to flow text in long form

CHILDREN’S BOOKS & GIFTS DESIGN FELLOWSHIP

Graduated with an accredited, undergraduate or graduate degree in design within 24 months prior to the start date of the fellowship. Design candidates only.

PRODUCT DESIGN/DEVELOPMENT FELLOWSHIP

Application Requirements:

All applicants for the Product Design/Development Fellowship position must have a strong interest in book, publication, or packaging design along with a background in graphic design, product design, or industrial design.

Required Education:

Graduated with an accredited, undergraduate or graduate degree in design within 24 months prior to the start date of the fellowship. Design candidates only.

Required Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Word
  • Communication skills, written and verbal, in English
  • Prioritization, multitasking, and organization skills
  • Interpersonal, collaborative skills
  • Interest in 3D design and idea generation
  • Knowledge and experience in product design techniques, tools, and the principles involved in production of technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models are an advantage
