Cynthia Leonor Garza grew up in South Texas near the border between two countries, two languages, and two cultures. She is also the author of Lucía the Luchadora, named a Best Book of the Year by Kirkus, NPR, the Chicago Public Library, and others. She has written essays and commentaries for NPR and The Atlantic and previously worked as a newspaper reporter. Cynthia lives in Mexico City with her husband and three daughters.

Gonzalo Alvarez is an illustrator, game designer, and author of the upcoming fantasy adventure graphic novel Polloman (2027, HarperAlley). His work blends Aztec mythology and modern-day Mexican folklore to tell a coming-of-age story about a young boy transported to the magical world of his ancestors. He created the internationally acclaimed video game Borders (2017), inspired by immigration stories, and co-founded Studio Tecuanis to create Nawalli: The Aztec Card Game. He works with his co-creator and partner, Grace Chadwick, in Port Arthur, Texas, and loves fantasy, mythology, and playing the bass.
