Jim Marshall, who died in 2010 at age 74, is widely celebrated as a premier music photographer and pioneer of the genre. His portfolio includes photos of virtually every major musician of his era, including the icons of rock and roll, as well as giants of jazz, blues, and country. Annie Leibovitz called him “THE rock and roll photographer.” He was the first photographer to be awarded a Grammy Trustees Award for chronicling music history. Marshall was a legend both for his outsize personality and the way he seemed to disappear when behind his trademark Leica camera, thereby producing some of the most intimate and iconic images in music history.
Joel Selvin is an American San Francisco–based music critic and author known for his weekly column in the San Francisco Chronicle, which ran from 1972 to 2009. Selvin has written more than twenty books covering various aspects of pop music, written liner notes for dozens of recorded albums, and appeared in countless documentaries.
Amelia Davis, owner of Jim Marshall Photography LLC, was legendary photographer Jim Marshall's longtime personal assistant. Since his passing, Davis has edited eight Jim Marshall monographs and curated yearly photographic exhibitions of Marshall's work; in 2019, she was the executive producer of the award-winning feature-length documentary on the life of Jim Marshall, Show Me the Picture: The Story of Jim Marshall.
