A Festoon of Flowers

Decorate With Flowers, a new book from blogging superstars Holly Becker and Leslie Shewring, brings together their love of botanicals and design expertise with beautiful results. In addition to showing readers the basics of floral arranging with stunning photos and user-friendly instructions, Holly and Leslie tell readers how they can take this process to the next level by incorporating flowers into the home.

I was so inspired that I had to take a trip to the San Francisco Flower Mart with my Chronicle pals, Guinevere and Irene, to pick up some colorful blooms to test out some of the projects in the book.

The first project we tackled was the cheerful and fun “Festoon of Flowers.” This beautiful garland of tied-on flowers and plants is a simple and quick way to spruce up any room.

How-to from Decorate With Flowers:
To make the garland, simply secure your favorite flowers, herbs and other greenery, and some gift tags to a length of twine using with 2-inch strips of string. You can make your festoons as long as you’d like, and you can add ribbon, strips of fabric, or anything else that you fancy as long as they’re lightweight. Fix each end of your garland to the wall using a thumbtack or small nails. If you’d like to hide them, wrap a ribbon around each nail or tack, allowing it to trail down the wall a bit.
